9 Marketing Tips for New Interior Designers & Home Stagers

How 30 Days of Self Portraits Transformed My Social Media Marketing

The Kate Show | Episode 33

This episode is sponsored by Nancy Ganzekaufer, Your Business Partner.

If you just launched a business in home furnishings, interior design, or staging, you know that marketing yourself can be a real challenge. You feel awkward. You lack confidence. You don't have a lot of money to throw around.

My friend, I've been there, and I want you to know that this feeling of overwhelm won't last forever but the learning curve will (and should) keep extending itself as you constantly push yourself and your business to the next level. A year from now, you will look back on the first few months, or years, of your business and smile. You might cringe a little, too, and that's a good thing. You are going to learn more about yourself and your industry from your first few years in business than any psychologist or MBA could ever offer.  You'll also become a veteran marketer who develops either a love or a hatred for all things marketing. You get to decide.

The day I realized marketing was easy was the day it became easy.Β

That's right, marketing is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you approach marketing with the mindset of, "This is going to suck," then yes, it will be an awful and depreciating experience for you. However, if you approach marketing with the mindset of, "I'm here to help a specific group of people in the best and most authentic way possible--I just need to find them," you'll find that marketing becomes less like running in place and more like sprinting toward a specific goal.

In this episode, I share the biggest mistakes I made early in my business with the hope that you won't repeat them. I also take care of a few business "housekeeping" issues that you absolutely must address well before you take on your first client.
